Did you know that many movies and TV shows were filmed in Central Park? It's not surprising because this place is truly famous and well-known. If you've seen movies like "Home Alone", "Breakfast at Tiffany's", "The Avengers", or "Ghostbusters", you'll definitely remember these places. But now visiting Central Park isn't just a regular tour - it's like entering a real maze full of riddles that you'll have to solve!

2/39

Фото

To start the game, enter the secret code.

3/39

Фото

As you progress through the quest, you'll need to send your answers to the tasks. Sometimes they will be words, so formulate them as simply as possible, using singular nouns. For example, if you encounter a question like "The fruit depicted on the back of all iPhones," the correct answer would be "Apple."

At times, the answers to the tasks will be numbers. For instance, "How many main characters are there in the TV show 'Friends'?" In this case, the correct answer would be "6."

If you make a mistake, we'll offer you hints. Remember, the third hint will provide the correct answer, but try to solve it using only the first two.

You'll also need to take photos and videos at particularly beautiful spots. Consider this task as an opportunity to be imaginative!

4/39

Фото

Important - charge your phone and do not close the browser during the game. Also, try to wear comfortable shoes and bring a positive attitude!

Your game will start at 764 Central Park S, by the Pulitzer Fountain as shown in the photo. Click the "Next" button to begin the game.

5/39

Фото

Your game has begun!

Right now, you're standing next to the amazing Pulitzer Fountain topped with a bronze statue of the goddess of abundance, Pomona. The fountain was funded by Pulitzer's money, which is why it was named after the famous journalist.

It's at this very fountain that Carrie Bradshaw and Charlotte York took a stroll in one of the scenes from the movie "Sex and the City 2." Super cool, isn't it?

Idea💡: Take a photo by this fountain as a memento and press the "Next" button. If you decide to share this photo on social media 👉🏻 tag us @quiz.trip

6/39

Фото

Facing the goddess Pomona, if you look to your right, you'll see The Plaza Hotel. It's one of the most famous and finest hotels in the world, an iconic symbol of New York City. Many movies were filmed there, including "Crocodile Dundee," "Sleepless in Seattle," "Scent of a Woman," "The War of the Roses," "The Great Gatsby" and "Home Alone 2."

In the last movie, the main character, a young boy named Kevin, stays in the hotel using his father's credit card and experiences incredible adventures on Christmas Eve. As you can see in the picture, Kevin is standing there and kind of wondering whether it's a good idea to go into the hotel where the room price starts at 600 dollars. Well, guess what? Totally worth it!

Task: Can you try to count how many floors this grand building has? Keep in mind that the top floor is not visible from this point!

7/39

Фото

Great job! Now let's cross the street and get closer to the hotel's beautiful entrance area. In the movie "Home Alone 2" the main character sneaks into the hotel through these doors. For the scene where Kevin escapes from the concierge by sliding on the floor, they removed the carpets. The hotel's owner at that time loved the new look so much that he asked not to put the carpets back. This versatile businessman also made a cameo appearance in one episode of the film in exchange for allowing the shooting on the hotel's premises.

Task: Who is this multi-talented businessman?

8/39

Фото

Well done! If you're interested, you can also enter the hotel lobby and witness the grandeur of this hotel, which cost an astronomical sum of 12 million dollars to build back in 1907.

And our quest continues. Now, from the hotel entrance, you need to go to the right, towards Central Park, and cross the road. Walk along the fence until you reach an unusual street lamp.

Press the 'Next' button when you're in position

9/39

Фото

The lantern is indeed not the simplest! It's an exact replica of the historical street lamps adorning Lombard Bridge in Hamburg, gifted to New York City. Examine the lamp post carefully - you'll need it later in the quest.

Task: Write down in which year this lamp post was installed.

10/39

Фото

Excellent work! From the lamp, you're entering Central Park! Head down towards the water. Keep going to the right, along the pond. Stop at the second viewing platform with a view of the bridge; here, you'll surely remember how Kevin from "Home Alone 2" encountered a mysterious lady who really frightened him after escaping from the hotel.

In the photo, she's actually standing against the backdrop of Gapstow Bridge with her friends. By the way, it was because of them that she got her nickname. See if you can guess what this character's name was in the movie.

Task: What was this lady's name in the movie?

11/39

Фото

Great! Now we're moving forward as if on wings and ascending onto Gapstow Bridge, which you might have seen in movies like "Manhattan", "The Way We Were", "Spiderman 3", "Highlander", "Keeping the Faith", "When in Rome", "Made of Honor", "Night at the Museum", "Autumn in New York", "Great Expectations", "Uptown Girls" and "Glee".

Plus, a scene from the movie "The Devil Wears Prada" was filmed here. Take a look at what's behind Stanley Tucci and the incomparable Anne Hathaway! In the movie, Andy had plenty of weird and challenging tasks from her boss, but the toughest assignment fell to you! Measure the length of the Gapstow Bridge!

Task: What is the length of this bridge in feet?

12/39

Фото

You did it, intern! After the bridge, keep moving along the road until you reach a junction; to the left of it, you'll see an entrance to the secret part of the park called Hallett Nature Sanctuary. You can go in there, but make sure to come back and continue your path to the right from the junction until you reach the entrance to the skating rink.

Press the 'Next' button when you're in position

13/39

Фото

Awesome! We're right at the entrance to the famous Wollman Rink. It's time to dive into some cool facts about it! This skating rink was opened in 1949, and it covers three-quarters of an acre (approximately 2,600 square meters) of ice surface. While it's all covered with ice during winter, various sports activities take place here during the summer.

This location has appeared in movies like "Gossip Girl", "Home Alone 2", "Stepmom", "The January Man", "Love Story" and "Serendipity». In the final movie, at this ice rink, there's a romantic scene where the main characters Jonathan and Sara meet for the first time. They accidentally bump into each other, and this incident is like magic that connects them!

If you, just like the characters in the movies, found yourself near the entrance to the ice rink, you would definitely notice the large tree standing near it.

Task: Which a big tree that stands near the entrance to the ice rink?

14/39

Фото

Bravo! Now let's head up to the spectator viewing area located at the Wollman Rink overlook. Here, you can take a beautiful photo and look around; you'll get a great view of the surroundings and the park itself

Press the 'Next' button when you're in position

Central Park was used as the filming location for many scenes from the movie "Cruel Intentions" with Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Reese Witherspoon.

Now, let's dive into the party scene of the movie. If you cast your eyes over all the buildings you can see around, you'll easily spot a bright hotel sign that played the role of the main character's apartment.

16/39

Фото

You're breezing through the riddles effortlessly! Let's see if the next riddle can enchant you. If you stand in the middle of the platform and face away from the skating rink, you'll be able to see The Dairy Visitor Center and Gift Shop, where you can find information about the park's history, attraction prices, or souvenirs. Approach this building by going up the road on the left side.

Press the 'Next' button when you're in position

17/39

Фото

You might even encounter the princess from the movie "Enchanted" because it was in this building where the famous princess danced and sang, entertaining all the visitors. We believe the princess didn't choose this place randomly; after all, it's called the Children's District! If you're observant here, you'll easily find the family's surname that generously contributed to the district's restoration.

Task: Write down the surname of the family that helped restore the Children's District, including The Dairy Gift Shop.

18/39

Фото

If you've successfully completed the task, you're now standing by this commemorative plaque. If not, be sure to find it! A new, vibrant challenge awaits you! Now it's time for you to try yourself in the role of a princess - sing any song from a Disney animated movie, with The Dairy Gift Shop in the background, and capture it on video.

Idea💡: Stand at the fork in the road, next to the plaque, with the building behind you, and perform a song from a Disney animated movie. If you decide to share this video on social media 👉🏻 tag us @quiz.trip

Thank you for such a wonderful performance! Now ahead, you'll see a bridge with an arch in it. Move towards this arch and walk through it.

You've been paying great attention! It's time to take a break and enjoy a ride on the most famous carousel in Central Park! Around 250,000 people ride the Central Park Carousel every year. The original carousel, dating back to 1871, was powered by a mule or horse located beneath its platform. Two subsequent automated versions were destroyed by fires in 1924 and 1950. The current carousel is the fourth one at this location. Inside, you can see 57 hand-carved horses and two decorative chariots.

The carousel looks like something from a fairy tale, so it's no wonder that in the movie "Up the Sandbox," the main character played by Barbra Streisand imagines herself and her partner on the carousel, diving into her fantasies. But don't fall asleep, and try to answer the question.

ask: How many pretty little horses do you encounter at the entrance?

20/39

Фото

We hope you enjoyed the beautiful carousel and are ready to continue. The Central Park Carousel was featured in such movies as 'I'm Not Rappaport,' 'The Spanish Prisoner,' and 'The Producers.' An interesting fact - Central Park serves as a filming location for about 30-50 movies every year.

Now, head up the path to the left of the arch through which you arrived here. Move to the left and reach the lamp post marked with the Devil's mark and bearing the number 6660, just like in the movie "The Omen." After that, fearlessly, you need to find the lamp post with the same number but with the letter A. And under it, you'll find a small plaque with an image on it. What is depicted on the plaque?

Task: Find the image under one of the lamp posts and write down what it is.

21/39

Фото

Now you are facing the large Sheep Meadow field. Keep on walking alongside the field fence on the left; your next riddle is easily solvable even while taking a stroll.

Like many places in this park, the field boasts a range of scenes filmed here, for instance, "Cruel Intentions," where Kathryn Merteuil (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Cecile Caldwell (Selma Blair) share a kiss. But few locations can proudly claim to have had an animated film shot on them. Sheep Meadow field can! "Antz" is the first computer-animated film by DreamWorks Animation about a colony of ants that live in this field. Just imagine how vast this field must have seemed to the simple ants!

Let's keep going! You need to walk to the drinking fountain, and across the road, you can see a beautiful building that was originally a stable for animals just 100 years ago. In the 1930s, this place became the famous "Tavern on the Green" restaurant. It is well-known for its appearances in movies such as "Wall Street" and "Ghostbusters".

Remember that scene when Louis tried to escape from the demon in Central Park, and that restaurant where he couldn't find shelter, right from the Ghostbusters movie? That was indeed "Tavern on the Green". Since then, the appearance of the restaurant has remained almost unchanged, except for two stone gargoyles that guarded the entrance. They were added by the director to maintain the gothic style in the movie, but they are not there now, of course. However, other animals guard the restaurant.

Task: Name the state where Arnold Schwarzenegger served as governor.

You are absolutely right, but don't relax just yet. Take a look around! Not far away, you'll find the bust. That's your new goal - head towards it. After you reach the bust, continue your path along the road, passing by the long benches, until you reach the next monument, the Seventh Regiment Memorial. You need to find the figure of a soldier surrounded by trees.

The Seventh Regiment Memorial, located in New York City, is a historic monument dedicated to the soldiers of the Seventh Regiment of the New York National Guard who fought in the American Civil War. The memorial features a bronze statue of a Civil War soldier atop a granite pedestal, and it serves as a tribute to the regiment's bravery and sacrifice during one of the most significant periods in American history. So take a closer look at it.

Task: Which firm created this impressive monument?

26/39

Фото

Next on our list is the third monument along this path. Keep walking along the road, and soon you'll see a large monument of Daniel Webster, a prominent 19th-century statesman known for his eloquence. You can see this huge statue ahead, but please walk very carefully, without violating traffic rules, as this area is very busy. A funny fact is that the monument was originally intended for another location, but due to the size of the statue, it was installed along West Drive on 72nd Street.

Despite its imposing appearance, the monument is very popular as a meeting spot and a filming location.

Your new task: try to guess which bird the bronze Daniel sees most often?

27/39

Фото

You nailed it! We hope the guy with the bird helped you find the right answer and will continue to assist you in moving forward. If you're standing with your back to the monument with the falcon, you'll see a road ahead of you that will take you uphill to the hill with a fountain.

Named after the cherry trees that bloom here every spring, Cherry Hill is a popular spot for picnics, walks, and, of course, movie filming. For instance, the heartwarming film "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" featuring Tom Hanks and Thomas Horn. But for the movie's filming, they added an object that Cherry Hill never had before, and it's what the boy, the main character of the film, played on.

Task: What object was added to this square just for the movie?

29/39

Фото

Right here, on the hill the large fountain immediately caught your attention. It was designed by the park's architect, Jacob Ray Mould, as a watering fountain for horses. Riders could stop by, take a break, and enjoy the view of the lake.

But for all the fans of the TV show "Friends", this place is simply iconic. Yes, you're right; this is almost the same fountain. It's right here that the set decorators drew inspiration to create their version of the fountain. That's why it looks like the intro of the famous TV series.

Idea💡Take a photo in the style of "Friends" – imagine yourselves as the stars of your own show! If you decide to share this photo on social media 👉🏻 tag us @quiz.trip

Now head down to the lake! This water body has been featured in the popular comedy "Night at the Museum" starring Ben Stiller and, of course, in several other movies. From here, you'll have a splendid view of the city and the park. Take a few minutes to look around! The lake was the first landscaped area in Central Park to be opened to the public in the winter of 1858 and has since been considered the heart of Central Park.

Near this lake, you'll need to check how many people a freundschaft can accommodate.

Task: Write down how many people one freundschaft can hold.

Фото

Keep walking along the serene waters, heading towards the Bow Bridge. It's one of the most photographed landmarks in the park and one of the most romantic spots, often chosen for numerous wedding proposals.

Directors couldn't overlook this location and filmed very beautiful and romantic scenes here. Interestingly, in one movie, this bridge was used for a breakup scene. It's where Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst), broke up with Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) in the movie "Spider-Man 3". Please, don’t cry!

The bridge is adorned with eight floral urns, the funds for which were donated by two women leading a women's community.

Task: Write down the first names of these women.

32/39

Фото

You're on fire! Now from the bridge, let's head south-east. You'll enter a path with a fountain on Bethesda Terrace. It was constructed between 1859 and 1865 by architects Calvert Vaux and Jacob Mould, with Vaux considering it his finest work. Almost ten years later, the sculptural composition "Angel of the Waters" by Emma Stebbins was officially unveiled.

This place has been featured in films such as "Gossip Girl", "Gotham", "The Avengers", "Ransom", "Godspell", "Home Alone 2", "Green Card", "It Could Happen to You", "Deconstructing Harry", "The Out of Towners", "Prisoner of Second Avenue", and "Stuart Little II". It's incredible how many real gems from the world of cinema were filmed right here!

33/39

Фото

Now, in front of you, there is an arch, confidently step inside! Today, The Bethesda Terrace Arcade is an important part of the park's cultural heritage and continues to attract visitors from all over the world with its exquisite design and historical significance. It looks especially beautiful in the evening when the lighting is turned on. The Minton mosaic tiles used to decorate the arches were created in the 1860s and manufactured in the Minton & Company studio in England.

The images on the four panels depict compositions of female figures, symbolizing various aspects of femininity and emotions. At the feet of one of the women lies the symbol of goodness, purity, wisdom, prudence, generosity, and the very best blessings in this world. In the picture, it's not in a blooming state, making it quite difficult to identify at the moment. But we're confident you can do it!

Task: What flower is present by one of the women, symbolizing goodness, purity, and wisdom?

34/39

Фото

You did a great job, but don't rush to leave just yet! Bethesda Terrace Arcade is a popular spot for live musical performances. Concerts, choir performances, orchestras, and other musical groups are held here, attracting visitors to the park. You might even be lucky enough to catch street performers' shows.

And you can also be sure that at least two princesses have visited this arcade - Giselle from the movie "Enchanted" and the second, real one. Try to find the real princess right here in the arcade and write down her name.

Task: Find the real princess in the arcade and write down her name.

35/39

Фото

You've successfully solved our riddle once again! Now, go up the stairs. Ahead of you begins the famous promenade that connects the Bethesda Terrace with the fountain and Olmsted's flowerbed. Many movies were created here, including "Kramer vs. Kramer", "Vanilla Sky", "Maid in Manhattan", "The Smurfs", "Friends with Benefits", and "Breakfast at Tiffany's".

After you've climbed up, take a look at the columns on the left and right of the staircase. According to the authors' intention, these two columns symbolize something. Can you guess what?

Task: Examine the columns to the right and left of the staircase and write down what they symbolize.

36/39

Фото

You did an amazing job with this challenging task! Now, let's backtrack a bit. Walk around the staircase on the right or left to reach the observation platform above Bethesda and see the fountain with the angel in front of you once again.

Press the 'Next' button when you're in position

37/39

If you feel that this place is somewhat magical, the sculptor who worked on the angel agrees with you. Emma Stebbins considered the water here to be healing. Many historians agree that the image Emma used to create the angel is her beloved Charlotte. If you want to learn more about LGBTQ+ places, be sure to check out our "LGBTQ+ Neighborhood of New York" quest.

Carefully observe the fountain and find the detail that connects or even relates this artwork to the lamp post that greeted you at the beginning of the quest.

Task: What detail connects the lamp post and the "Angel of the Waters" fountain?

38/39

Фото

You did it even with this super-difficult question! You are not just here by chance. This location was used for the final scene in the movie "The Avengers", where Thor receives the Tesseract, and the gagged Loki is shot on the top of Bethesda Terrace. Perhaps, at this spot, there were more superheroes gathered at the same time - Thor, Iron Man, Loki, Black Widow, Captain America, Hulk, and Hawkeye. A truly legendary place!
